| In 2006, my sister decided to do the
"Aviva" weekend for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. This entailed walking 60 km over
two days to raise money. The cost of entering the walk was £1500. How you raised the
money to cover that cost was up to you. Initially
I was going to throw in a tenner to help out, but I wanted to do more. I have no skills as
such, nothing I wanted to sell, so I came up with the idea of organising a ride-out. That
first year of 2006, £342 was raised mainly by riders making a donation of £5 per bike.
In 2007, that figure went up to £720. The vast jump
was due not only to another 20 riders, but also to the way money was raised.
Some riders took sponsorship forms into their
workplace and to families and friends. If you wish to do this, the forms can be obtained
from either myself or Breakthrough. |
